Assistant Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović Delivers Keynote at International Seminar on Interdisciplinary Research
Assistant Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) participated as a keynote speaker at the international online seminar titled “The Integration of Arts and Design Education and the Social Sciences: Enhancing Creativity and Critical Thinking in Academic Research,” held on May 13, 2026 and organized by the Faculty of Education and Liberal Arts at INTI International University, Malaysia.
The seminar brought together academics, researchers, educators, and students from various international institutions to discuss the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in contemporary education and academic research. The discussion highlighted that, while specialization remains essential, today’s social, technological, and cultural challenges increasingly require integrative approaches that connect the arts, design, humanities, and social sciences.
In her presentation, Asst. Prof. Mulahmetović explored the historical shift from holistic educational models toward disciplinary specialization, while emphasizing the renewed importance of interdisciplinary and collaborative research practices. Drawing on theoretical frameworks, empirical research models, and educational case studies, she demonstrated how collaborative methodologies can significantly enhance students’ conceptual understanding, interpretative depth, critical thinking, and creative capacities.
Particular attention was given to practice-based interdisciplinary projects that connect visual communication design, literature, cultural studies, psychology, and the social sciences through collaborative typography, contemporary art interpretation, and conceptual 3D modeling practices.
The seminar also underscored the importance of international academic cooperation and innovative educational approaches in responding to contemporary educational and societal challenges.
